The numbers of the 14/11/21 election may speak of "wins and "losses" but a deeper reading shows other nuances.
1️⃣ We had the lowest turnout in 38 years of democracy: 71%.
2️⃣ For the ruling party, clientelism contributed its share but was not enough.
3️⃣ In the opposition, the results of CABA and Buenos Aires show that the citizenry rejected the old practices: the "a dedo", the "a dedo", the "enroques", the "enroques", the changes of figures in ministry format. The "winning" number did not exceed the 50% expected in CABA, and in Buenos Aires nothing was added. The votes of the PASO contender were not retained and the new votes went to the ruling party and the third forces.
A clear annoyance has set in among citizens, the certainty of the lack of representation and the repudiation of the old practices of party politics of all political persuasions.
The only outsiders to this reality are the (increasingly fewer) fanatics at the extremes of the rift (capable of celebrating and endorsing almost anything) and some sectors of the population that have not (yet) acquired sufficient autonomy.
Argentina is suffering: for 12 years and three administrations of different parties, it has not been growing or creating jobs. Party politics should have understood by now that the situation does not lend itself to empty triumphalism, denials and euphoria, and it would be desirable for it to read the citizens' agenda more carefully every day.
We often hear phrases like this from both the ruling and opposition parties:
"I don't know if I will be a candidate" "It's too early" "In Argentina two years is an eternity".
An eternity for what?
Two years can be an eternity to give time to the arrangements, to see who measures the most, to see how the quintets are preserved, transactions are completed and more castling is carried out. In other words: the worst of the political "rosca", which in itself is not bad at all.
Now, to work on a concrete macro/micro plan, for the development of Argentina to the last corner of our provinces (yes, we know: there are a few who do not want this), led by the candidate, suitable professionals, their possible ministers and their teams, to know what they are going to do, concretely, from the moment they start governing... we guarantee you that two years is nothing. Nothing at all.
On top of that, it's not even two years, because each candidate should have their teams and their plan well underway by the beginning of 2023, before the whirlwind of campaigning begins (yet again) and everyone is working as a candidate. In other words, it is only a little more than a year.
Returning to representation, in the PASO the ruling party participated without internal elections and the opposition with a deficient internal election. If the parties are part of a coalition, let each party present its candidates and let its affiliates choose. Then, let those candidates compete in the PASO. Transparency. The possibility of new people coming in. We don't want more hand-picked candidates and no more lists of candidates. We want a renewal of party politics.
At the same time, there is good news: since the decision will be up to the members, politicians will no longer have to engage in surreptitious negotiations. The lack of tension will de-stress them and free up time to work on the Plan we need.
At this point it should be clear that for four years one party/coalition is in charge of the government (not the state) while another coalition/party/parties is in charge of the opposition. And that both the ruling party and the opposition should do their homework as well as possible in order to be re-elected in one case and in the other to reach/return to government (not to "power" as we also hear people say, because power belongs to the citizenry, politicians have delegated it to them).
Who's to say! Perhaps with a good short, medium and long-term strategic plan, everyone's dream will come true: for party politics, that someone will win in the first round, and for us, the overburdened citizens, that we will finally be able to vote for proposals, and no longer for the "least bad".
We want party politics of all political stripes to stop chicanery, to stop talking about the past, to stop blaming each other and to dedicate themselves to working on an Integral Plan of Development and Economic Growth for our country to the last corner, accompanied by their State Policies, which transcend all those who, ephemerally, should only be at the service of Argentina and its Citizens.
Let us make the future live in the present.
Let's start another Argentina, but this time, let's get serious:
Let party politics get to work now.
