Why should we vote with a Single Paper Ballot?
Because we believe that transparency in electoral processes is the essence of democracy. The alternative of the Single Paper Ballot is superior because of its simplicity, modernity, transparency and low cost.
Let's see:
- The Single Paper Ballot guarantees the right to choose: we will always be able to vote for the person or party of our choice as we will all be on the same ballot given to us at the polling station. We will no longer hear the famous "There are no ballots" in the darkroom.
- It guarantees the right to be elected: it provides fairness to political parties and candidates, allowing large and small parties to compete in a transparent and fair manner. It eliminates bad practices in politics such as "chain voting", ballot theft, and the maintenance of party stamps for the sole purpose of receiving state resources for the printing of ballots. Democracy should not be a business.
- It is more economical: it reduces the need to print several electoral rolls of ballots, generating an enormous saving of resources (more than 3,000 million pesos if it had been used in the 2021 election) (multiply by years and imagine if we were to allocate them to education or health).
- It is more sustainable: it helps to preserve the environment, fight climate change and reduce the carbon footprint by reducing the use of paper, energy and inks. Less paper means less unnecessary deforestation. Most ballots end up in the trash after the election. Tons of paper wasted. And thousands of trees cut down.
It is possible that this week our Congress will deal with the law that could pass it.
Citizens must let our representatives know that we are informed, that with this reform we all win, and above all, that they have been elected to dialogue, work together and generate agreements that benefit us as a society. We do not want to continue witnessing the eternal confrontation of egos and a zero-sum power game.
Spread the word! Talk to everyone about the advantages of Boleta Única de Papel: family, friends, on the bus, at the grocery store, at work, at school.
And write to our representatives!* Let them know that we know that there is no reason for us to continue voting with the current party ballot system, that we want to live in a better country and that the quality of our democracy begins with the act of voting.
