⭕️ Ineptitude and imposture
A crust of bread.
In relation to the increase in export duties on soybean meal and oil from 31 to 33%, which we discussed in our previous post, and from 29 to 30% on biodiesel (a specific issue that we will discuss in a future post), it was announced that the 400/450 million dollars that this increase in duties represents will be used to generate a fund "to compensate for the internal price of wheat", due to the increase in grain and its meal as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
This type of regulation is not only ineffective but also subject to discretionary and unclear management, such as when the ROEs (Registro de Operaciones de Exportación) were generated.
In relation to this specific measure, let's look at the declared objective and its concreteness; to do this, let's do a simple mathematical exercise:
If there are 20 million poor Argentines, for each one there are 20 dollars, if the fund is as announced for 9 (nine) months, each one in one month gets USD 2.22 (two dollars and 22 cents) per month. At the official exchange rate that is $ 8.5 (eight pesos and 55 cents) per day. If a kilo of bread costs $ 300 (three hundred pesos) per kilo, with a density of 5.8 cm3/g, and each gram is worth 0.3 pesos, it is equivalent to 28 cm3: that is, a loaf of bread just over 3 cm by 3 cm by 3 cm.
❗️Conclusión: export duties and all the regulations attached to them have not served to alleviate poverty, but rather to hinder investment, entrepreneurship, business creation and genuine employment: the only legitimate and dignified way to combat poverty.
It would be time for the members of the ruling party to put aside their mere "last for the next two years" and to govern; to assume the responsibility to stop taking "stop-gap" measures, not only useless today, but with a negative impact on tomorrow.
It would also be constructive if, whatever the format of the governing coalition for the 2023 elections, and whether they hope to win or lose, they work seriously on a short, medium and long-term Growth and Development Plan, which they lacked when they were elected and which they continue to lack.
⭕️ Banality and imposture
Coalition or collision? A little problem with semantics?
👉🏼Coalición:
Entity created from the union of two or more political parties. Pact or union between individuals, social groups or states to achieve a common goal.
👉🏼Colisión:
Violent meeting of two or more bodies. Confrontation between opposing ideas, interests or feelings.
While the ruling party lives in its own bubble, the opposition does not lag behind. In an impoverished and disoriented country, where fuel is already scarce at the gates of harvest and winter, the opposition "coalition", without cohesion or coherence, apart from banal discrepancies between one and the other, is dedicated to fireworks, superficiality and imposture. It distracts and seeks media coverage, proposing mere loose instruments, unconnected and unproductive in themselves, such as "dollarisation", the privatisation of one of the very expensive state companies, or a bill for the president of a country at war to use his scarce time to speak to Congress about a nation that is neither cut and dried, geopolitically nor economically, in its current tragedy. What's more, it has been hesitant and inconsistent in its support for its country.
What a way of navel-gazing! Is it because we Citizens say that party politics is naked? What if they put on a T-shirt and do some work?
It would be constructive if, if the opposition "coalition" cannot agree, each political party in it works on a clear and detailed government programme (not sanata, not verse, not mere loose instruments): A consistent MACRO MICRO PLAN. That party should then decide on its candidates in internal elections and that the eventual candidate should contribute his or her stamp to the Plan that has already been drawn up, together with a decision on the posts to be filled by the members of the team that drew it up: ministers, cabinet chiefs, civil servants.
In this way, Citizens will be able to vote for proposals and teams, no longer for the "least bad", no longer for the empty faces and slogans that have brought us to our present day.
📢 Citizens: let's set the agenda.
Let's keep working.
