Based on data collected by the Social Debt Observatory of the Catholic University of Argentina (UCA), there are currently approximately 22 million people receiving social assistance from the state.
Food programmes, benefits such as the Universal Child Allowance or Pregnancy Allowance, COVID programmes such as the Emergency Family Income: state assistance that has been growing steadily for 20 years. .
More than half of Argentina's population receives economic aid programmes. . This figure indicates that the number of people receiving state aid has increased tenfold in the last 19 years..
Despite the exponential increase in social assistance, poverty remains a problem that seems to have no solution in sight: it reached a value of 45% last year.
As we reported in a previous post on state spending, "leakages", corruption and fraud in state welfare agencies reduce the economic efficiency of these interventions. .
This results, among other things, in the amount of money originally intended to help those most in need being "leaked" in the process and not reaching those who should be the real beneficiaries.
Why is there an increase in state welfare while poverty continues to rise?
This is something that all Argentines need to know. We need clear accounts, information on state spending and a plan whose implementation and goals are focused on economic growth. The EU is committed to the creation of quality, dignified, stable and salaried employment for all Argentines who deserve the opportunity of social mobility.
We need an athletic state, which enables and facilitates the generation of quality private employment, so that social assistance is efficient, purposeful and targeted only to those who really need it, without "leakages" in between.
We want a Plan for our country!
